A Mantra for Enlightenment!

Blessings, Dear Ones!

Where is the kind and loving God, many of you may be asking?

How can a loving, all-powerful being allow such suffering to exist on earth? The answer is that God is in us, and that God gives us free will.

The gasoline that police put in their cars is from the same source as the gasoline that thieves put in their cars. The chase is energized by that same gasoline--which comes from the Source. The fuel is neither good nor bad, but is simply energy. And so, God in us is our fuel, our mind, our heart, and our actions, allowing us to experience ourselves as Creators. You like what you got? Good. You don’t like what you got, that is good too, for it provides the karmic lesson you need to bring you closer to the Source. That Source is the all-knowing Mind, the all-loving Heart of God. And you are That!

The Masters encourage us to use affirmations to bring about positive changes in ourselves and the world. However, while doing affirmations you are usually in the consciousness of the human self, the ego that is thinking about good and bad, right and wrong, positive and negative—which is the world of duality. So, how do we get to experience the Oneness, God Consciousness? In that Conscious we need do an affirmation once, and it is accomplished.

This is where the ancient teachings of the Far East come in. The use of a mantra is designed to focus the human mind so that Divine Mind can be experienced. This does not necessitate using a Sanskrit mantra; however, using Sanskrit does tend to unplug the mind from its goal oriented nature of wanting to think. When you don’t think about the words, but simply hear and feel them as a vibration, your senses are open to receive from Higher Mind.  

As an example, the affirmation: I AM the Presence of God can lead one on an inner journey of questioning and wondering just as the Sanskrit mantra meaning the same, Aham Brahmasmi (I AM Brahman), can lead the mind of an Indian practitioner on a similar path. One of the most common mantras used by wandering sadhus (renunciates) in India is Om Ram, Ram, Ram..., (a name of God). That, too, does not guarantee enlightenment; however, it has led many, including Neem Karoli Baba (Ram Das’s guru) to that exalted state. In the West, one could meditate on the translation: Om God, God, God....

However, there is something special about chanting in Sanskrit, a language derived from the Pranava, the primordial sound—especially for Westerners, who will not be distracted by thoughts invoked by the mental meaning of the words. Thus, I offer here the mantra I used for years: 

Om Ah Hung

Vajra Guru

Padma Siddhi

Hung!

(Translation: Primordial Om, which is the mind of God and the sound of Creation; Ah, the voice of God located in the throat, Hung, the residence of God in the heart: Vajra Guru, the I AM Presence, which is the Indestructible Guru that is everywhere and in everyone: Padma, the lotus blossom of the Divine Feminine in which we exist and realize the power of the Divine Self: Siddhi Hung! Full realization now!)

This mantra was given twelve hundred years ago in Tibet by Padmasambhava, who said that it would be invaluable in the future when horses run on wheels, iron birds fly, and spiritual teachers do not follow their own teachings. I have used this mantra for years and found it to be a priceless jewel. Use a mala (string of 108 beads) and recite an entire mala at least every morning before rising and at night before sleep. It only takes about 4 1/2 minutes and tthe results are astounding. Please do not expect miracles at once, such as visions or sudden insights, which will block the effect—and which reveals itself over time. However, keep in mind that enlightenment happens spontaneously, unexpectedly, and not according to linear time—but meditation opens the door to its arrival and says "Welcome any time!."
